The Color Purple~so much more than a movie.
Studies have found that foods with blue and purple pigments can improve memory, enhance vision, protect against heart attack, act as anti-inflammatories, and even help control weight.
All this plus the vitamin A and beta-carotene of the regular orange carrots gives you the antioxidant compounds of blueberries and Romaine lettuce.
The ’Purple Haze’ carrot can be compared to the original color of carrots cultivated in Afghanistan 5,000 years ago.
When storing carrots don’t do so near apples or pears, they both give off gases that turn carrots bitter.
TIP: Purple Haze will lose much of their lovely color in cooking.
Better to slice thin with regular orange carrots and serve with a yummy dill sauce.**Sage Hill Farms has all the dried ingredients to make this sauce.**
Ingredients
1 (8 ounce) package creamy goat cheese , at room temperature
1 cup Greek style yogurt-plain
2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
1/2 teaspoon sea or pink salt
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill weed
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic (optional)The Process)
1.In a medium bowl, blend creamy cheese and yogurt with an electric mixer until smooth. Mix in green onions, salt, dill and garlic. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to blend flavors. If the dip is too thick after chilling, stir in 1 or 2 tablespoons of milk-1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
This sauce is good for most any vegetable and even on salmon and baked potatoes.
Enjoy…

A few of the ”Sages” at Sage Hill Farms. Almost everything is in bloom already, a bit early for most, I suspect because we have had way too much rain for the normal growing and maturing patterns to work on schedule. When this happens it is hard to keep things from bolting and going to seed to soon…..which means we have to cut back more often to try prolonging the blooming stage.Sage is one of those plants when it is ready to bloom….it blooms, no amount of cutting will alter the intent.
So, we just enjoy the view and be grateful for the abundance.
Sage blooms are wonderful in green salads with apple and mango.
The blooms are beautiful tossed into a punch bowl of lemon-ade.
If you cook cornbread( my first love) ( white cornmeal ) no GM corn. Wash, dry, and arrange about 6 sage leaves on the bottom of the skillet before pouring the batter into it.
The leaves will cook into the crust of the bread and flavor it slightly-and the visual is stunning~

Well you’re really getting the hang of this huh!!! HAHAHA! Love the graphic and glad you figured out we can now use some HTML tags. I’m going to be adding some of this info near the text areas so people know they can do a little bit of formatting to their text.

Roxanne, my hubby lives in a state of perpetual fear that I’m going to transport myself into cyber space by just clicking to see where it will take me. I’ve taught myself a lot and I’ve messed up a lot ! At least now I know what ”not” to do.
You have accomplished so much…thank you~

Erika, making sweets that have to be cooked/baked with Stevia requires changes with some ingredients. I make delicious pies but cakes don’t work well for me…but, I’m not a sweet maker/eater to a large degree, so haven’t put much effort into practice. Stevia is wonderful in iced tea, lemonade, etc. I use about 1/4 to [...]

Bea & MaryAnne – thanks so much for sharing the information about Stevia. Can I easily substitute Stevia for sugar in recipes, or do my recipes need to change? I love sweets, and I have MS – the two do not go hand in hand. If using Stevia allows me to have my sweets without [...]

Spring is in full swing at Sage Hill…gardens are all planted and some things are already breaking ground. Now…I can start working on my “chicken” project…I’ll post pictures when it’s finished. I’m excited…I adore chickens. I grew up on a farm and my papa raised baby chicks to broiler stage for the Marshall-Durbin company…I remember [...]

~ Cucumbers are one of the super foods, I’ve been known to have them with my scrambled eggs at breakfast~ I eat them daily when in season… They have been cultivated for at least 3,000 years. The Romans loved them and in Egypt they were popular both as food and medicine, Because they are 90% [...] -

Hi Karen, Last year when my fall/winter garden was no longer producing, I covered all the greens with straw and left them to overwinter. They are back and beautiful. Today I harvested collards, kale, and Swiss chard. Chives are ready to begin cutting, as is the parsley. Tomorrow I will make parsley/chive butter and along [...]

Karen, you can relax…olive oil and real butter are among the healthy foods. I only use real butter, takes very little and compared to the bad stuff in the alteratives it’s a really good thing. The only thing to be aware of with olive oil is high heat, after a certain temp it will turn [...]
