Where do you go to shop for your food for your pet? Do you look for knowledgable staff?

We have two pet skunks right now. Blossom and Lacey. Sometimes I would swear they are the reincarnated first two we had some years ago, Pooh and Baby. You can see pics and read stories on Pet Skunks for Sale Blog http://skunkiedelight.wordpress.com Lacey is sitting on my feet right now. She wants me to sit her in the windowsill so she can smell the night. Blossom is hiding in my closet which she says is hers. We are getting another Newfoundland dog in a few months, hoping for a Landseer black and white this time.

    Bea,

That sounds like a great idea. I have never heard of SAAW before. I have been trapping feral cats in Jasper for the the last couple of years, but the local animal rescue (PAR) is underfunded.

While I still help trap some cats for the TNR program, they have kind of discouraged me from looking for more. Now I call ahead before I even attempt to set up the trap.

Is there a way that PAR can get some help from SAAW and how would they go about doing it? I don’t mind trapping and socializing some of the local strays, but the 15 extra cats (along with my 7) that I had in the summer of 2008 nearly broke me with food and flea preventative costs! ;(

Kudos to SAAW for the 3000 cats supported through this program. It definitely sounds like a worthy cause.

Hi Linda, are you in Jasper, TN. ?

I will check with the founder here and get some correct info for you.

I think there is a chapter in Nashville that can help you more than we could.
They have a much larger bank of resources than our chapter.

I’ll get back to you as soon as I gather the info.

Sue ( founder ) here left for Texas yesterday, so as soon as she returns I’m on it~

Do you sell a pet product ?

I Attended the monthly meeting of SAAW this AM ( Southern Alliance for Animal Welfare) While tossing around ideas for raising funds we decided to offer a class around ” cooking with herbs ” which I will teach.

We will charge a fee or one can barter….a place at the counter in exchange for a certain amount of donations (a good nutritional cat/dog food )

The SAAW program offers free food for cats/dogs to people who would otherwise have to give up their pets or not feed them as well as they should. We offer this assistance in exchange for the owners commitment to spay/neuter the pets. This cuts down on animals that eventually end up at the shelter and most often euthanized.

We also offer the food to people who are willing to feed and trap ferrel cats so they too can be spayed.

In just over a year we have transported almost 3,000 animals…mostly cats to the participating vets. This is a wonderful program and very worthy of ones time and talent to make it work.

I will send this information to my daughter. She is dealing with the stray cats taht my dad was feeding before he passed over in June. We need them spayed/neutered and on to homes or a shelter. We cannot support them as a family as they are numerous. Everyone dropped their cats off at the park it seems, right across from his acreage and barn. Thank you for sharing.

I was wondering what the members of this group do with their pets when they go on vacation. Have you considered a pet sitter before? Have you used a pet sitter before? And if not, what do you look for when deciding what to do with your pets while you have to be away from home.

We have pet skunks. If a skunk in the United States bites or scratches anyone, they are put down to be tested for rabies even though they are twenty generations domestic, vaccinated and cannot have rabies. Therefore I do not go on vacation without my pet skunks, I allow no one but the vet to touch them. I would consider another equally zealous skunk owner and would trade pet sitting with them. Our Newfoundlands, we use a kennel with lots of trees and air conditioning. When we had cats, we had someone come in to feed, scoop and pet them daily.

Hi, right now in the Goode household are 3 cats. Two silver striped Bengal brothers, as different as any two temperaments could be: one shy and one friendly, one sensitive to sound and the other comfortable, one touchy outside and the other craving his body to be in the warm sun. then there is AL, [...]

Hello all just wanted to remind everyone with the big chocolate weekend approaching. Chocolate is very dangerous for your dog. Please keep all chocolate out of their nose reach. Another danger is gum the ingredient in sugar free gum. And watch out for grapes and raisins. Give your dog a good for them treat such [...]

The basket grasses, the colored plastic shiny stuff…. that is dangerous just like tree tinsel because once it gets in their throat they will probably swallow it and need surgical removal because of the way it can twist and wrap in the intestines. A friend spend $2K to have a long grass removed from her cat, so I never have any in the house since I heard that one.

So OK spring has arrived, I know this because I woke up last night in a complete sweat with both animals wrapped around me. Why does the ceiling fan seem to make them sleep on their backs with me as the stabilizer?

I love hearing about pets and their personalities. I have a peek-a-poo that is half the size of my cat and the dog rules the house! Louise (the dog) was a gift from a former employer and she has rarely left my lap! I wanted a lap dog and I got one… sometimes you have [...]

Hi. Our dog (not a chihuaha) passed away from old age last year. My son has 3 dogs. 2 Pit Bulls named Gage and Precious and a Chihuaha named Little-Man. Little-Man is the tiniest thing I’ve ever seen with the loudest bark I’ve ever heard, LOL. When my grandson, Bryce, was born, Little-Man was very [...]
